What is it?
PIDS®
is a patent pending technology and accompanying process
that provides pharmacists and pharmacy students the
ability to document pharmacist interventions specific to
the identification and resolution of drug therapy
problems. The PIDS™ware suite of
products enables decentralized sites to then sync drug
therapy interventions into Enterprise servers for
advanced analytical reporting and evaluation pertinent
to both patient care and business.
What are "drug therapy
problems?"
Drug therapy problems exist when
people are prescribed or take medication in incorrect
ways or when the results of taking medication cause
unintended, preventable effects. |
Are drug therapy problems a
significant issue?
Yes. Call it America's
silent disease. The Institute of Medicine, a branch of
the National Research Council, estimated in their year
2000 report "To Err is Human - Building a Safer Health
System" that 44,000 to 98,000 Americans die annually
due, in part, to problems caused by their medications.
To put this in perspective, about 16,000 people die from
AIDS each year. It is the equivalent of a fully loaded
Boeing 747 crashing every 2-4 days.
